Michael was honored to lead a Panel at the 2024 General Counsel Conference on November 19, 2024 at the Marriot Marquis Hotel in Times Square, which brings together hundreds of legal leaders and General Counsel who are shaping the future of legal leadership and seek to continue to grow, innovate, and transform their legal departments.
Moderated by James Palmer, Reporter for ALM, Michael's Panel, "Getting Out of Your Own Way: How to Negotiate Your Way to the Top" brought together expert panelists Ashley Miller, General Counsel and Head of Legal Operations for Capgemini and Damali Peterman, Esq., Judicial Arbitration and Mediation Services (JAMS) Mediator as they joined Michael to teach how best to overcome common obstacles and get out of your own way to achieve better outcomes and improve your career.
The session equipped attendees with practical strategies to enhance their confidence and achieve their professional goals, as Michael and his fellow panelists discussed how attendees can negotiate their way up, advance their careers, expand their knowledge, and be the best asset they can be to their organization.
Significant research has shown sports to be one of the few opportunities for children to learn and perfect their leadership abilities and competencies. Our founders questioned why this leadership education needed to be “experienced“ instead of “taught” and an idea was born. Entrepreneurs and natural leaders at heart, they sought out to create a “new kind“ of soccer clinic - one that doesn’t simply focus on skills and hope each participant gains some leadership experience - one instead, that is designed specifically to teach six of the most important leadership qualities on the field and off the field, through exciting and never-before-seen new drills, activities and experiences.
This first-ever program was scientifically designed and created to intuitively teach children essential life skills and leadership development principles, while contemporaneously providing authentic Division I soccer training.
Leading the program are three star NCAA collegiate athletes, hand-selected and chosen specifically for their demonstrated leadership capabilities - clearly on display not only on the field, but in the classroom & throughout their communities. Together, Michael and the team sought to design an original, never-before-seen soccer skills program that would be the first to combine leadership development education with NCAA Division I collegiate soccer skills training.
Personable, friendly, and caring, this group has put together a program unlike any other before - that not only offers fun, creative soccer education and drills, but provides lessons in leadership, empathy, teamwork, communication, and more!
Working together with Professor Gordon, the group utilized the proven leadership lessons researched and offered in Professor Gordon's book and combined them with their own experiences and advice. What resulted was a never-before-seen program chock full of activities, drills, and lessons that are not only fun, unique, and creative, but that fully incorporate Professor Gordon's extensive research and findings on early leadership development.
During most programs, participants take part in break-out sessions, one-on-ones, and partake in all new drills, games, and contests designed specifically to make them better leaders.
Michael was privileged to lead an international 3-credit summer semester study abroad program in Innsbruck, Austria, that focused on Organizational Behavior and Leadership Development. The course included both international students from Europe as well as students from the host institution, the Management Center of Innsbruck (MCI), a picturesque campus flanked on all sides by the Alps.
Michael taught program favorite sessions on leadership and developing inner strengths in the professional world and in life. Given the location of the MCI campus, students and professors alike were able to explore educational and historic sites found in Salzburg or Vienna, Austria; Munich, Germany, and cities across Switzerland and Italy, while learning the invaluable and crucial organizational and professional development skills.
MCI | The Management & Entrepreneurial School® combines science and business into one unique concept. International lecturers and experts, a worldwide network and numerous services offer students an unforgettable study experience with excellent career prospects. With more than 300 selected partner universities around the world, distinguished double degree programs, prestigious international accreditations and top placements in several surveys and rankings, MCI enjoys an excellent reputation worldwide. Michael loves finding the time to coach his children's sports teams, and makes sure to always focus on the leadership and personal development of his players - from requiring each player to do a weekly good deed that determines that week's Team Captain to instituting regular Parents vs. Kids games to make even better memories for his players and their families.
Michael's teams have won championships in soccer, baseball, & street hockey - as he still chases that elusive basketball championship!

Awarded by Seton Hall University School of Law to an attorney “Committed to Public Service, the Community, and Justice in the Law”
Michael completed over 120+ hours of pro bono legal services through Lowenstein Sandler's Center for the Public Interest, covering a range of pro bono matters, which included: (i) representing non-profit corporate clients with fund management advice; (ii) assisting with immigration filings for asylum seekers; (iii) preparing estate planning documents and healthcare directives for low-income clients; and (iv) representing qualified applicants seeking post-conviction relief through New Jersey’s INNOCENCE PROJECT, in collaboration with Rutgers University Camden – School of Law, wherein Michael volunteered to represent New Jersey residents who have been wrongfully convicted of crimes and seek exoneration.
Studies estimate that between 1 percent and 6 percent of all criminal cases result in wrongful convictions. Using the conservative estimate of 1 percent, hundreds of innocent individuals remain incarcerated in New Jersey.
To address this injustice, Rutgers University joined the National Innocence Network in 2021 and received hundreds of requests from incarcerated individuals claiming innocence. More than two dozen Lowenstein attorneys, such as Michael, stepped up to assist the New Jersey Innocence Project with reviewing and investigating the innocence claims to identify appropriate cases for potential exoneration and continues to investigate claims and help innocent people return to their homes and communities.
Michael was certified as a professional leadership coach and Professor by Seton Hall's Buccino Leadership Institute, the nation's #1 Ranked Leadership Development Program in the nation, with an acceptance rate of less than 8%, wherein competitively selected undergraduate students experience a curriculum steeped in leadership science and curriculum.
In addition to becoming a master of leading oneself through leadership coaches, assessments, and feedback, enrollees lead interdisciplinary teams to solve real-world problems and lead Institute-wide initiatives.

One of Michael's best qualities is that he's a constant learner. Mike is a professional at his craft, but despite having a big job and the heavy lift of being a father, Michael finds/makes time to do more.
Another quality I admire is how authentic and genuine Michael is in everything he does. We quickly built a great working relationship together, and that relationship has sustained the test of time over many years despite our careers going in very different directions over time. I'd welcome the opportunity to work with Michael again without hesitation.
I had the pleasure of coaching youth soccer alongside Mike over the past couple of years. During this time, I not only witnessed Mike's incredible passion for the sport but also his dedication to developing young athletes and fostering an environment of growth and teamwork.

I had the pleasure of meeting Michael during a leadership course at Seton Hall ("The Hall") a few years ago, and I remain deeply grateful for both the experience and his influence. The insights, tools, and lessons on leadership and success that he shared continue to shape both my professional and personal life.
Michael played a pivotal role in expanding my perspective, inspiring me to approach life with a smile, an open heart, and renewed self-belief. His guidance has helped me strive to be my best, whether at work or in my personal pursuits.
I can confidently say that Michael would be an invaluable asset to any team or organization. His positivity and dedication truly elevate those around him.
Professor Gordon is an exceptional educator and mentor whose dedication to student success is truly commendable. During my time at Seton Hall University, I have had the privilege of learning from him in an organizational behavior course abroad, where his profound knowledge and passion for leadership and development significantly enhanced my learning experience.
Professor Gordon possesses a remarkable ability to breakdown complex concepts, making them accessible and engaging. His teaching methods not only convey information effectively but also inspire critical thinking and a genuine interest in the subject matter.
Beyond the classroom, Professor Gordon has been instrumental in guiding my academic and professional development. He provided insightful advice on networking and building a personal brand, connected me with valuable resources, and supported my career aspirations by pointing me in the right direction with the right people for every step of the process.
I wholeheartedly recommend Professor Gordon to any institution or student seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable educator. His commitment to excellence and genuine care for his students make him an invaluable asset to the academic community. mentor. He is a pillar in the legal community and it is a pleasure to know and work with him!
Professor Gordon played a strategic part in my undergraduate journey at Seton Hall University and I was blessed to have him as a teacher. He challenged not only me but his fellow students with inquisitive questions that were very thought-provoking and simply made others around him greater. He was one of the best professors I was fortunate enough to cross paths with and someone I would highly consider if a role were needed to be filled for a team- a true visionary!
I have had the pleasure of working with Mike for many years. He brings an excellent combination of judgment, leadership and creative problem solving skills to the table. He is a tremendous asset to any team or organization.
I had the privilege of working with Mike during my time at ADP Retirement Services. I have been lucky to work with some very good attorneys during my career, but Mike made what very often was a long and difficult process a painless one and was always great in collaborating. His “get it done” approach was appreciated and greatly valued.
I worked with Mike on several marketing initiatives during his time at CSG and found him to be highly dependable and hardworking. He would often be the first to volunteer for any task – large or small – for the benefit of the firm. The enthusiasm he brings to each and every project truly makes him an asset to any organization.
Having worked with Mike for more than 7 years, I can attest to his tremendous talents as an attorney. Anyone needing guidance can rely on Mike to provide sound advice in a reasoned, practical way. Just as important as Mike’s legal skill, however, is his innate ability to connect with people on a personal level. Mike forms meaningful bonds with clients and colleagues, and therefore is an asset to any organization.
Michael is a skilled attorney and educator. He possesses the ability to skillfully navigate the practice of law, and provide simplified explanations of complex legal theories. His ability to take complex areas of law and break them down into simplified, understandable explanations was invaluable in a learning atmosphere. Also, Michael is approachable with any question, and overall a very friendly person.
Mr. Gordon has impeccable work ethic. Even as a law student under pressure from the rigors of a difficult academic program, Mr. Gordon expended great effort and time in teaching and guiding his fellow students. It was a coveted role for a select few, and Mr. Gordon performed his teaching responsibilities dutifully.
Often times the insurance placements I work on are complicated and involve negotiations with buyers or sellers counsel or sometimes both. Having worked on a number of transactions I come to appreciate counsel who understands the value I can add and allows me the latitude to operate. Michael trusts the deal team and exudes confidence and control along the way. Michael is an asset to any transaction and is a consummate professional.
Michael is a consummate professional, whose detailed oriented work is a pleasure for those who need accurate counsel under pressure. His work never disappoints!
I have worked with Mike for many years. I also have been lucky enough to know him for many years on a personal level. He is extremely relatable, competent and hard-working. He is also very trustworthy. I would not hesitate to engage Mike or work alongside of him on any matter. It is with the utmost confidence that I recommend him.
Michael is a skilled attorney - and a great person and mentor. He is a pillar in the legal community and it is a pleasure to know and work with him!
"Michael Gordon embodies true leadership in every facet of his life. He is a determined lawyer, genuine friend, proud father and a real-world thinking Professor. His work ethic and professionalism have always impressed me and others Michael interacts with.
I first got to know Michael as we worked together. We quickly realized we shared a lot in common. From our Seton Hall alumni roots, passion for teaching and mentorship, and genuine creativity that we can make things better for the next generation, we started connecting the dots and have partnered together in many facets of life. From developing and co-teaching a first of its kind leadership class together at Seton Hall University, alongside Bryan Price, to having the opportunity to create a Baskets & Business professional networking program, Michael and I have developed a close collaboration together. I am proud to recognize Michael as someone who will always go above and beyond at everything he puts his mind to. His ability to have people rally behind him is extraordinary and I am honored to have met Michael. He continues to inspire myself and others to be the best we can be in our daily lives.
We have gone on to become close friends. His passions will continue to lead a strong legacy and I am excited to see where Michael’s future takes him, as he is very passionate about helping others."
“Leadership and personal development skills mean everything to me and I value them highly. I’m a soccer player, so both academically, but also as an athlete, these skills keep me growing as a person. Developing these skills are essential for a person like me who wants to help people around me and be a role model today.
Unfortunately, these skills aren’t as much communicated and shown among young people as it should be. I believe that if leadership and personal development skills are taught at an early stage in life, we would see a more mature and professional population.
I think that Professor Gordon’s style of teaching is remarkable and fascinating. He is a role model when it comes down to being a leader and helping us develop ourselves. He shows how a leader should act in terms of preparing himself for class but also by being appealing as a speaker. Moreover, the fact that he offers himself to help his former and current students in their career journey as a mentor also shows why he is such a good person to teach personal development and leadership.”
Coach Mike:
We admire the way you inspire the kids and your positive energy! You are one of a kind! I’m really glad you’ll be coaching the kids in basketball! We are on the same page - trying to be the best version of ourselves as parents each day because our kids deserve the very best!
But honestly, you have been a role model and I’m glad you came into our son’s life. I hope he can keep on being in contact with you and your family - since having kind and inspiring people around is vital for any child and for our family - even more being the case that we are ‘new’ in this country and we really want the best for our kids as well. Thank you for everything!
"Professor Gordon is definitely one of the best professors I've had at Seton Hall. He is knowledgeable and makes all the subjects relatable to the class. He is always willing to help students and provide guidance using his vast experience in many areas.
Mr. Gordon has impeccable work ethic. Even as a law student under pressure from the rigors of a difficult academic program, Mr. Gordon expended great effort and time in teaching and guiding his fellow students. It was a coveted role for a select few, and Mr. Gordon performed his teaching responsibilities dutifully."
During the Fall semester of 2018, I was a student of Michael's in his business law course. I can undeniably claim that Mr. Gordon is a brilliant professor who excels in relaying his knowledge of the law to his students. I very much enjoyed his class and respected how well he was able to communicate the legal side of business. If given the opportunity, I would have surely taken another course with him.
Professor Gordon is extremely reliable as a professor and friend. He’s always one call away for any needs and really cares for his students’ success.
I’ve known Michael for the past 8 years and he’s always been a outstanding friend and Professional. He’s helped most recently with my licensing requirements of my new business Trash Pros of New Jersey. Without him it would have taken years to get licensed. I am forever grateful to him. I would highly recommend him.
"I am incredibly impressed. Wow.
I was at dinner with my family last night and we were talking about leadership and why certain people succeed and others do not. I was trying to explain to my kids that being a business leader has a lot more to do with how you connect with and encourage/motivate people versus technical skills, etc. I tried to use real life examples, etc. to relay the points. I got a lot of blank stares…
In any event, I love what you've been doing in the leadership space, both for professionals and the students and young children you work with. I do fear greatly that younger generations are growing up much more pessimistic than our generation. We grew up with relative peace and prosperity whereas younger generations have seen pandemics, impeachments, economic inequality, etc.
There has never been a time where developing leadership skills is more important.
Again, bravo. I really admire what you are doing Michael. What you are doing is really impressive.”
"Professor Gordon served as a mentor to me both while in college and while pursing my professional career in basketball. Based on my experience with him, he’s one of the best professors I had and just a very great person. I actually loved going to his class even though it was a two-and-a-half-hour class, and I usually don’t like sitting in class for long, but I loved going to his class because he made learning so easy. At first, when I took a Business Law class, I was afraid I wasn’t going to be able to handle it, but Professor Gordon’s teaching style and the way he explains everything made the class so much easier to learn the materials.
And not only that he’s a great guy inside the classroom and he is also even greater outside the classroom. I could always reach out to him for advice and helped inspire me to pursue my professional career, by connecting me with agents, making sure no one was taking advantage of me, and making sure I was making the right choices - especially having no family at all in the country Professor Gordon even helped me create a highlight video to send to NBA teams and scouts, and I can't thank of anyone else who would take such time out just to help another.
So I can confidently say he’s a very great guy and these are just some kind words that don't do Professor Gordon justice - who's honestly one of my favorite Professors and people at Seton Hall."
Michael - your new children's novel is fantastic - I am so thrilled you shared this unique ideal with me - it looks like a fascinating project, really promising.
I listened to the available audio and you nailed it. Great voice, perfected the metre, was expressive without being distracting. I also love the gentle way you've approached the topics. I know it's for kids, but some self-help books about leadership can come across as either aggressive or more focused on self-promotion than helpful.
It sounds like you've worked hard on creating a piece of accessible fiction (and rhyming no less!) with a solid and actionable takeaway. I was getting "Dr. Seuss for the 21st century" vibes the whole time. It could be the start of a whole new genre!"
"You cannot pick a better professor at this school. I have been going through a lot in my personal life this semester and Professor Gordon was extremely understanding. He let me turn in assignments after the due date and is all-around a fair grader and an incredible guy. 10/10 professor, you should not take ANYONE ELSE!"
"Professor Gordon is by far the best professor at SHU. Explains the content of the class really well and makes it interesting, offers some minor extra credit and really helps you focus on career development. Wish he taught more classes because I would absolutely take him again."
"Okay best prof ever. Literally, take him you wont regret it. Not too much work, goes over everything with detail during class. Super cool, super understanding, answers all emails, and always there to help. Also helps you with things other than class like connecting you with people to help you with your future profession. TAKE HIM HES LITERALLY GREAT!"
"Best professor I've had at SHU. Cares so much about his students. Only teaches the necessary information and he tries to use real-world examples that make it much easier to understand. He also gives extra credit opportunities and does a great job of helping students with career development. Take Professor Gordon!"
"LITERALLY THE BEST. You won't regret it. He is so lowkey and makes the class manageable. Treats you like a human and makes class fun. Class is always great!! Would 100% take him again."
"Best overall professor at Seton Hall. The information is really interesting and he made it so easy to understand. He's an incredible guy who I wish I can take again."
"Professor Gordon was one of my favorites at SHU - he actually wants you to do well and makes it easy to understand otherwise complicated material. I personally thought his real world examples and tips were the most helpful and something refreshing that we could actually use for once."
